A Deenbandhu plant is made from rings of bricks placed so
that each ring “locks” in place when it is complete. The
alignment of the bricks is defined by a guide, which is a stick
that rotates around a central spike mounted on a pillar built on
the floor of the plant. As the dome gets higher, bricks are held
in place by weights until the ring is complete.
A standard Deenbandhu plant has a calculated total internal
volume of 5.55 m
3
, although not all of the internal volume is
used for slurry. The actual value is more like 4.7 m
3
. The
quoted daily gas production from cattle dung is 2 m
3
per day,
although the actual gas production depends on the feed and
the ambient temperature.
The equations for a volume of a spherical segment can be used
to calculate the volumes of the top and bottom parts of the
digester.
There are a range of different sizes for Deenbandhu, brick
dome, plants, including much larger ones. A sequence of
photographs, showing the building of a brick dome plant is
available. SKG Sangha have started using the “Suntala” design
More details of biogas plant designs are given in the book.
